The World’s largest Solar Power Plant
Noor Ouarzazate in Morocco is built on an area of more than 3,000 hectares in area - the size of 3,500 football fields. The plant produces enough electricity to power a city the size of Prague (over 1 million people). The complex has a capacity of 580 Megawatts, saving the planet from over 760,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.
At almost 800 feet, the giant tower at the centre of Noor Ouarzazate is the tallest in Africa! Rays from the sun are reflected off huge mirrors and concentrated at the top of the tower creating 500°C of heat which is stored in salt until it is needed.
Whilst tree planting remains one of the best ways to reduce global carbon emissions, iOffset fund tree planting projects as a “Carbon Positive” action and as such tree planting does not form part of the offset calculation. Our tree planting partner, One Tree Planted is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organisation on a mission to plant trees across North America, Latin America, Asia & Australia and Africa.
How it Works
Carbon offsetting works by investing in accredited projects that essentially remove (afforestation) or prevent (renewable energy) more CO2 than your carbon footprint generates.
Afforestation - VCS Project
Afforestation for storing CO2 from the atmosphere. Guanare Forest Plantations is a VCS accredited project in Uruguay. The project covers a total of 21,298 ha of land previously grazed by beef cattle on which forest plantations were established to produce high-quality, long-lived wood products and store large quantities of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The forests are mainly based on Eucalyptus grandis plantations in 22-year rotation, which are cultivated with cutting and two to three thinning operations to obtain high-diameter logs suitable for sawing and veneering.
Solar Power China - Gold Standard
Ningxia Lingwu Baitugang 40MWp Solar PV Power Generation Project is located in Baitugang Town, Lingwu City, China. The purpose of the Project is to install 167,960 pieces of the polycrystalline silicon solar cell modules with unit capacity of 240Wp to generate clean renewable electricity with zero emissions
The project is estimated to achieve annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions by displacing power generation from fossil fuel power plants under the baseline scenario. Total emission reductions for the first crediting period is expected to be 337,841 t CO2e.
